Evolution of the VW TDI

Volkswagen is a pioneer in modern automotive diesel and TDI technology. It produced its first diesel passenger car in 1976, with a 50 bhp, a Golf with a1.5L naturally aspirated diesel engine. Diesel engines are different from gasoline-powered ones in terms of fuel source, ignition, low engine speed, efficiency, torque and emissions. Volkswagen improved the design by incorporated turbocharging and exhaust gas recirculation, and by 1982 a new engine was in production, sporting 70 bhp and 1.6L.
